local specialities

Lochristi is also called thé flower village of Belgium. Mostly because of the cultivation of azalea’s and the link with the floralies of Ghent. All the more reason to make a walk or cycling tour in April till June when the azalea’s are in their full bloom. Where after you can enjoy the delicious local pastry, in the shape of a flower of course, called ‘Loots Bloemengebakje”.

Also in literature this village fullfilled an unexpecting roile. Did you know that the mediaeval saga “Van de Vos Reynaerde” took place in and around Lochristi? And we would not be Belgians if we did not make a beer called Reinaert!
